Kayaking Equipment

There are a variety of different types of kayaks for a wide range of outdoor adventures. Choosing one that best meets your needs is the first step when it comes to purchasing equipment. Whether you're looking for a whitewater, sea, touring, recreational, racing, or sin-on-top model, there is a wide selection to choose from to accommodate individual kayaking needs. Once you make a final decision, then you can proceed to purchase the additional equipment needed.

Paddles are an essential item for any kayaking adventure. There's a wide selection of paddles available, so it's recommended that you purchase paddles along with your kayak to ensure the paddle is the appropriate style for your model kayak.

As with any other watercraft, it's essential to have and wear a Personal Flotation Device, or PFD, on every kayaking adventure to ensure personal safety. Not only is it an essential item to have on board, but it's required by law to wear a life jacket while out on open waters.

Spray Skirts are required for whitewater and sea kayaking to prevent water from entering into the boat. It's especially helpful if in case the kayak capsizes to prevent the paddler from being ejected and water infiltrating the kayak.

Other non-essential equipment items include: dry suits, wetsuits, paddle jacket, booties, gloves, knife, rope bag, float bags, and a dry bag. While these are just a few of the non-essential equipment items needed for a day spent out kayaking, other important items include a first-aid kit, cell phone, and enough food and water to last for at least two days.
